Strolling around downtown Portland and came across The Holy Donut. Its claim to fame….donuts made with mashed potato, instead of potato flour. Curious enough to check it out. At 4pm, there was still a line for the donuts. By the time we got to the front of the line, there were only a few options left.
Since Maine seems to be known for its berries this time of the year, I decided to try the triple berry donut. These potato donuts definitely tasted different from the typical yeast donuts. Rather than being light and fluffy, it had a denser, doughy consistency. I can almost taste the mash potatoes. The berry glaze gave the donut a natural sweetness. I am kinda a fan.
